A Parish Funeral Ministry Team is made up of Lay Ministers and Priests who play a particular role in ministry to the bereaved by visiting them in their homes, or a suitable Parish location.
As well as expressing sympathy and supporting families of the bereaved the Minister(s) take a role in planning the funeral rites for their loved ones and encourage participation in the various funeral rites both at the Vigil (evening before the Funeral Mass) and Funeral Mass.
Recently in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Barryroe Rose Finn became a Lay Funeral Minister. She is part of a team of Funeral Ministers in the Family of Parishes and it is envisaged a Rota will be set up so that all the Parishes will be served in this new Pastoral outreach.
Having undergone the necessary Diocesan training she was commissioned into the Funeral Ministry on Trinity Sunday by her Parish Priest Fr David O’Connell who having blessed her invoked the blessings of the Holy Spirit on her work in the new ministry.
