Congratulations and every blessing to Brid Hannan, Adare, Co Limerick, and Jimmy Dillane, Rathkeale, Co Limerick who celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage at Sacred Heart Church, Darrara, Clonakilty on Friday

They are from neighbouring parishes in West Limerick and know one another since secondary school days.

Jimmy serves as a Garda and Brid works in Careers Guidance at TCD.  

Brid is an All-Ireland winning camogie player and Jimmy plays Gaelic Football with his local club.

The couple currently live in Dublin.

Congratulations to Kevin Murphy, who grew up in Clonakilty and now lives in England, and Shannon Kennedy, Leicester, England, who were married in the parish church in Clonakilty on the 14 August.

Kevin is a past pupil of Gaelscoil Michil Uí Choileáin and served Mass as an altar boy in Clonakilty so this was a poignant moment for Kevin.

Shannon’s parents hail from Dublin and Navan and now live in England.

The couple live in England.

On Sunday June 22nd, to mark the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, the Blessed Sacrament is taken in procession through the streets after the 11.00am Mass

The church car park will only be available for parking for people with mobility difficulties.

The route for the Procession is: leaving via the Post Office gate, through Kent St, Rossa St, Pearse St, and returning to the church via the Post Office gate.

The congregation will follow the leading Crucifix and candles, followed by families with children who received their First Holy Communion, followed by the Mayoral Council, then the choir which precedes the canopy and the Blessed Sacrament accompanied by altar servers.

When the Procession returns to the church, Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament will be imparted. Refreshments follow in the Parish Centre.

This year marks 99 years since it began with the first Procession in the Cork city streets taking place on 6 June 1926 where tens of thousands of people participated. 

The idea of taking the Procession through the streets of Cork emerged in the years after the War of Independence and the Civil War in a bid to heal division.

The Procession will commence at 3pm from the Cathedral of Saint Mary and Saint Anne. A number of additions have been made to the Procession this year.

To facilitate the increasing numbers taking part each year, the liturgy and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on a specifically erected stage and altar on the Grand Parade.

Music is a big part of the procession so we have invited the choirs and music groups from the parishes in the city and beyond to participate. The procession will be led by the Butter Exchange band.
